Step 1: The Medical Screening
Once you have been matched with a surrogate, the medical evaluation process begins. The surrogate will undergo a thorough medical examination conducted by a reputable fertility clinic of your choosing. If you aren’t currently working with a clinic, we can connect you with one from our network of professionals.
This screening is to ensure that the surrogate is physically ready to carry a pregnancy to term and safely deliver your baby. The evaluation typically includes a review of her medical history, a physical examination, blood and urine tests and a sonogram.
Once the medical evaluations and tests are complete, the fertility clinic will create a customized treatment plan for the surrogate. This plan often involves a personalized regimen of fertility medications to prepare the surrogate's uterus for embryo transfer.
Step 2: IVF and the Embryo Transfer
As your surrogate is preparing for transfer day following the medical instructions of your fertility clinic, a dedicated medical team will be preparing the embryos for transfer utilizing in vitro fertilization (IVF). In gestational surrogacy, this process involves combining the eggs from the intended mother or generous donor with the sperm from the intended father or donor. That means the surrogate is not related to the baby in any way — your gestational carrier will not share any DNA with your baby.
Once your surrogate is ready for the embryo transfer, your doctor will carefully perform this procedure at your fertility clinic. After the embryo transfer is complete, your surrogate may be asked to rest for 24 hours before traveling home.
Step 3: Pregnancy Confirmation & Monitoring
Approximately 10 days after the embryo transfer, your surrogate will have HCG labs to determine if the transfer was successful.
